If you don’t feel like parting with your hard earned money for security software, you can get Avast Free Antivirus. It blocks viruses and malware, it gets rid of annoying browser add-ons, and it scans your home network for threats (this is a new feature called Home Network Security).

If you do feel like parting with a bit of money for security software, you’re well advised to get Avast Pro Antivirus. The previously mentioned Avast Free Antivirus offers a basic level of protection. The paid Avast Pro Antivirus offers an extended level of protection for your PC. It is a great choice for price-conscious people!

The system requirements for running Avast Pro Antivirus are: Pentium 3 processor or better; 128MB of RAM or more, 1GB of hard-drive space; 32- or 64-bit version of Windows, any version from XP SP2 up to 8 or 8.1. As you can see, the system requirements are quite low. Older PCs will have no problems running Avast Pro Antivirus and modern, powerful PCs will run it like a charm.

A setup wizard will help you install Avast Pro Antivirus on a PC that meets the system requirements presented above. The setup wizard will ask you to insert a license file or an activation code; if you don’t have a license file or activation code, you can use a 30-day trial. The setup wizard will also ask you to pick between a Regular and a Custom Installation. Go with the Custom Installation if you want to choose which components will be installed on your PC.

When the installation process completes and you run Avast Pro Antivirus for the first time, you will be presented with a tutorial. Said tutorial asks you if you want to block potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), tells you that Avast Pro Antivirus 2015 comes with a new Home Network Security feature that scans your network for security issues, tells you that the new Smart Scan can search for viruses, outdated software, network problems, and performance issues, informs you that SafeZone is great for online shopping and online banking, and invites you to get a McAfee security app for your mobile.

Avast Pro Antivirus has a dark-themed interface that I found to be very easy to navigate. From said interface you can easily access lots of features, functions, and tools: scan for viruses, scan for outdated software, scan for network threats, scan for performance issues, or perform a Smart Scan that covers all of these; use the Browser Cleanup tool to remove annoying add-ons; anonymously surf the web on an encrypted connection with SecureLine VPN; SecureDNS protects your router from DNS hijacking that could redirect you to a password-harvesting website; use SafeZone to shop online and for online banking purposes; run a program in the Sandbox; remotely control a computer with AccessAnywhere; view all sorts of statistics; and more.

Avast has been around for more than 25 years. Avast security products are used by more than 220 million people in 186 countries around the world.

Avast Pro Antivirus does a lot to protect your PC, your home network, and your data. If you want something better than Avast Free Antivirus, go get Avast Pro Antivirus.

Pros

The system requirements for running Avast Pro Antivirus are so low that even old, low-spec PCs will have no problems running it. The setup wizard asks you to choose between a Regular and a Custom Installation. A useful tutorial is displayed the first time you use Avast Pro Antivirus. The dark-themed interface is very easy to navigate. Technical and price-conscious people will surely appreciate the protection that Avast Pro Antivirus has to offer.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial.
